Children learn to protect their environment

The staff at Buttercups Day Nursery in Upper Bryn Coch Lane, Mold believe that it is important to educate children from an early age to protect their environment.

In 2007, with the help of The Woodland Trust, they planted 28 trees and children are shown how to grow vegetables in their ‘eco-garden’. Owner of Buttercups, Gavin McCarthy, said “ it’s good for children to realise that carrots for example grow in the soil – not in plastic bags on the supermarket shelf!!”.

Next year, they intend to plant willow cuttings with the intention of eventually being able to make their own willow sculptures like tunnels and igloos.

Therefore the staff at Buttercups Day Nursery were delighted when another local company, Greener Living Solutions, agreed to donate a number of energy saving products. Manager of Greener Living Solutions, Andy Evans said “we are pleased, not only to donate some energy saving products but also to help the children learn about their importance to the environment.” Greener Living Solutions have installed radiator insulation panels, a wireless energy monitor and energy saving light bulbs.
