Use the Sun's Natural Energy

Solar Thermal does not need lots of sun as it uses diffused solar radiation and direct sunlight to convert energy from sun into heat. Even on cloudy days, the system will capture solar radiation contributing to domestic hot water.

In summer months this could be as high as 100% - which would mean that the boiler would not have to fire up therefore saving both energy and money. In winter, the sun produces less energy, so a boiler is also needed to provide energy to heat domestic hote water. On average over a year, you can heat up to 70% of your hot water .

KEY

1 The fluid in the solar panel is heated by energy from the sun.

2 The pump station circulates the heated fluid around the system.

3 Hot fluid is pumped around the coil to heat the mains water held in the cylinder for domestic use

4 The temperature sensor in the cylinder detects whether the solar panel has collected sufficient energy to heat the hot water. If not, the boiler will fire up, heating the top coil of the cylinder to ‘top up’ the hot water temperature.

5 The solar controller is the brains! It manages the solar system during daylight hours to enable you to time your hot water and measure the amount of energy gained from the sun.
